The Palace at Knossos, Crete
This complex was the center of Minoan civilization from around 2000B.C. — 1300B.C. Yes, that is 4000 years ago! It is thought to be the location of the Greek myth of the Minotaur and Theseus.
Not mosaics, but I think you’ll enjoy the ancient artwork from the palace.
Cretan art in the Heraklion Museum, Crete
A bull rhyton, fertility statuettes, a bull-jumping fresco, a game board with game pieces shaped like houses, and pottery decorated with sea life and with the double axe symbol.
This museum even had samples of Linear A and Linear B, but my photos are too blurry to post. Still…amazing!
Sorry about the horrible color. The museum lighting was difficult.
